Valley music Festival

Saturday March 24th

All Day 12 Noon " 5.00pm at The Venue, Stocksbridge and Fox Valley Bandstand.

Evening Concert. Saturday Night Live at the Venue 7.00pm

Plans are well under way for Stocksbridge and district’s biggest musical event for years.

Hundreds of musicians will take part in the Valley Music Festival " an all-day event " on Saturday March 24th.  It is a joint presentation by Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir and Inyerface Arts.

Local music groups, including schools, will perform throughout the day at the Venue and at the Fox Valley bandstand culminating in an evening concert at the Venue with music to suit all tastes and ages.

Proceeds from the ground-breaking event, which it is hoped will happen every year, will to community groups and towards the establishment of The Valley Festival Fund to help develop young local musicians.

People attending the daytime events will be asked for a donation and admission to the evening concert will by ticket.

Community musician, soprano and teacher Hilary Osborn, who leads Inyerface Arts, said: “We are bowled over by the response from community groups, local schools and solo and ensemble performers.  This is a huge event by the community for the community.”

Taking part will be six local choirs, two youth choirs, three local schools, performing arts groups, local bands and many young soloists. The Inyerface Band, led by Joe Shaw, will be accompany young pop and rock singers and will also be playing at the evening concert.

Hilary, who lives in Deepcar, added: “There is a huge amount of talent in the valley and this event will celebrate the fact.”

Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir secretary Rob Firth said:  “Never before have so many musicians from the district performed at one event. It is very exciting.  It’s particularly heart-warming to bring so many young and older musicians together.”

Among those taking part in the evening concert are: Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir, Deepcar Brass Band, , Waldershelf  Singers, Red House, Steel Valley Beacon Arts, No Identity and The Inyerface Band. The evening will end with the massed voices raising the roof by singing the Rita MacNeil classic Working Man accompanied by the bands.
